Creative Steps Day Camp of Northeast Philadelphia was overjoyed at the idea of sending their kids once a week to the Valley Swim Club.
Today NBC reports over 60 campers were turned away from the swim club, with racial tensions listed as the most probable reason. Pool attendants told the children minorities were not allowed in the club, as the club's caucasian children exited the pool.
"There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club," John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.
Frankly, and in laments terms, I can't believe this crap is still going on. As a Philadelphia resident, I am disgusted. No other words can describe how infuriating this is. Land of the free, my ass. Keep on working at it, America.
